Tentative deal for Hilton workers

Picket lines have been suspended at Boston area Hilton hotels and an estimated 600 housekeepers, front desk agents, and restaurant staff who have been on strike for more than three weeks will return to their jobs Friday, if workers vote to approve a new tentative agreement, union officials said in a statement Tuesday night.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. A ratification vote is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, the statement said.

For the last 24 days, striking workers at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza and the Hilton Boston Logan Airport have been demanding higher wages and sustainable work hours in new contracts with their employers.

Also affected by the tentative agreement are workers from the DoubleTree Hilton Boston-Cambridge and the Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites Boston Seaport, according to Unite Here Local 26, which represents hospitality workers in Greater Boston and Rhode Island.

Union members will vote Friday to ratify a contract with Hilton Hotels & Resorts. If the contract is ratified, approximately 600 striking workers will return to their jobs at 4 a.m. Friday, the union’s statement said.

Contracts for workers at 30 Boston hotels expired Aug. 31. Negotiations for new agreements have been underway since April, the union said.

“Their demands include meaningful raises, improved benefits, and more sustainable workloads,’’ the statement said.

On Oct. 20, workers from the Omni Boston Seaport and Omni Parker House hotels unanimously ratified a new contract that achieved these core demands, the union said.

Contracts with Boston-area Marriott- and Aimbridge-operated properties remain unresolved.
