The MBTA announced that service on part of the Red Line’s Ashmont Branch and on the Mattapan Line will be suspended from April 1 to April 9 as crews repair tracks in the area.

Red Line service between JFK/UMass and Ashmont will be replaced with free shuttle buses while crews “perform critical track renewal work,’’ the MBTA said last week.

Mattapan Line service to Milton will also be replaced with shuttle buses.

During the week, shuttle buses will run every three to five minutes between JFK/UMass and Ashmont. Buses between Ashmont and Mattapan will run every five to six minutes, the MBTA said.

After the service suspension, the Ashmont Branch will run at reduced frequency between JFK/UMass and Ashmont from April 10 to April 30, officials said.

Trains will continue to operate between Alewife and Braintree every seven to eight minutes during normal service hours.

The MBTA advised commuters to use shuttle buses and transfer to the Red Line at JFK/UMass from April 1 to 9. From April 10 to 30, riders on the Mattapan Line should transfer to the Red Line at Ashmont. Riders are also encouraged to use the Fairmount commuter rail line during this time, officials said. Riders should expect longer wait times during the 21-day period.
