Suffolk Construction CEO John Fish and his wife, Cynthia, recently donated $10 million to Tabor Academy in Marion, marking the largest single donation in the private school’s history.
The funds will support faculty, athletics, and student financial aid, Tabor said in a statement.
Fish graduated from the school on Buzzards Bay in 1978. “Tabor Academy will always hold a very special place in my heart,’’ he said in the statement.
“While attending Tabor in high school, I built lasting relationships with teachers and coaches who changed my life forever,’’ Fish said. “Cyndy and I are thrilled to support this incredible institution of learning and its ambitious plans for the future.’’
A “significant portion’’ of the donation will go toward financial aid, the statement said.
“We are deeply grateful to John and Cyndy for this inspirational gift that will allow us to change lives in profound and transformational ways at Tabor,’’ Head of School Tony Jaccaci said in the statement.
Fish credits Tabor, known for its marine sciences and sailing program, with helping him overcome dyslexia, which significantly affected his academic performance and confidence as a child.
The Fishes have donated nearly $20 million to the school over the past 40 years, according to the statement. In 2023, he made a contribution aimed at enhancing the school’s sports facilities, including the resodding of Upper Chapel Field and the addition of turf to the new Fish Field.
“John and Cyndy live the values of our school, and this generosity is a testament to their commitment to connect, serve and lead,’’ Jaccaci said. “A gift of this magnitude will make a deep difference in providing the best education possible for our students.’’
